WORLD UNDER 21 SEMI FINAL - 7 qualify (injured Ryan Roy and Gael Nicolas seeded to final)

17-year old Jay Patterson won this round to reach the junior world final without any worries - despite having a few years left at this level he seems well capable of lifting the title this season on current form.  Behind him James Mitchell, Robert Pusey and Sigurour Sigurour are all in their final Under 21 season but showed their qualify in progressing without too many major worries.  Vojtech Beran, like Patterson just 17, looks another very promising young rider and he showed quality and a calm head to qualify.  Jason Lomas produced a model display of consistency, taking 2nd in every heat, to make progress and the final qualification place went to surprise packet Sigve Myhre, a relative unknown and not at all fancied by the bookies pre-meeting.  No huge shocks in this one although you had to feel for Will O'Brien who opened with a pointless ride, fell in another heat and still only just missed out on qualifying.  The good news for O'Brien is that he has 2 years left at junior level, unlike Bradley Wilson and Sean Power who were both really fired up to reach the final at their last attempt but couldn't do enough, Wilson seemingly suffering with bike problems which hampered his efforts.

WORLD UNDER 21 SEMI FINAL - 7 qualify (injured Ryan Roy and Gael Nicolas seeded to final)

Adam Lynch and Tyron York justified their billing as pre-meeting favourites by tying at the top of the scorechart in this Semi Final, Lynch going on to win a run-off to settle 1st and 2nd places but both comfortably into the world final where they will want to be up near the top once again.  Will Pucovskiu completed the rostrum with an 11-point haul - he was expected to qualify and did so with room to spare.  Behind the top trio it was a very close meeting with just 1 point separating 4th down to 10th in the end.  Tommy Barnes, Noah Simon (Belgium) and Thomas Ryan (Australia) all won a couple of races which proved enough to give them 9 points apiece and see them through - Barnes was expected by most to go through but the others came in as relative unknowns but used their few years of extra experience, both 20 years old, wisely to progress to the final.  It required a 4-man run-off to decide the last place - Riley Payne had started the meeting strongly but seemed to fade as the track slickened off, before the decider though they had graded the circuit and the young Englishman made no mistake to take the last final place.  Shane Forbes ended in 8th and you had to feel he was unlucky as just a single point from his final 2 heats would have been enough but he ran a surprise last and then was a faller in heat 19 before just losing out to Payne.  Probably the biggest surprise across both Semis was the non-qualification of Oliver Courtney who will look to learn from this over the remaining 3 seasons he will have at Under 21 level.
