WORLD PAIRS SEMI FINAL |
Denmark were seeded to this stage of the competition and duly proved that it had been a correct decision to win the Semi Final and qualify with ease as Steen Eriksen gave good support to the impressive Tobias Yder. Hose nation Canada finished 2nd despite losing Doug Monaghan, who had started with 2 wins from 2, to an injury but they never looked in trouble as Carter Fortin came in to give Jackson Roy enough support to see them home. The final automatic qualifying spot went to Bulgaria for whom Venci Hristov was a model of consistency, after a slowish start, with Rumun Dimotrov picking up 3 heat wins to see them into the world final. |
Belgium finished in 4th place but, in the final analysis, their 17 points wasn't enough to take the highest scoring 4th placed spot in the final. The Czech Republic had, like the Danes, also been seeded to the Semi Final but couldn't offer enough support to top man Petr Marko and their challenge fell away despite being in the mix for most of the meeting. Henk Knapke was in good form for the Netherlands but they lacked support whilst the meeting proved too tough for Brazil to handle but both nations should feel that getting this far represents good progress for them. |

WORLD PAIRS SEMI FINAL |
Wales hosted this Semi Final and took full advantage to progress as both Rhodri Szczygiel and Richie Sampson recorded double figure scores to see them finish ahead of Poland and Sweden, both seeded to this stage, as the trio wrapped up final places. For the Poles Jakub Baran and Rafal Aranowski also both reached double figures with Olle Nyman being the standout performer from Sweden, with just enough support from his partner to see their nation through. New Zealand turned in a competitive display, Paul Laing excellent throughout and Fillippe Chong coming good in the second half of the meeting, and 20 points was enough to take the highest scoring 4th place nation qualifying spot for the world final. |
Norway, seeded through to the semis, had a little misfortune with top man Arne Karlsen suffering a time exclusion, although reserve Ostenstad came in a took 2 points in that one, an his partner taking a tumble in a later heat and those dropped points perhaps cost them in the final reckoning. The USA and Slovenia never really got going, disappointing for the Americans in particular as neither of their riders seemed able to really produce any consistency. |
