POLISH GRAND PRIX |
The Polish fans were left happy after their home GP closed the season's series with a bang. RAFAL ARANOWSKI (READING REBELS) was confirmed as WORLD CHAMPION (a 3rd place for Joossens in heat 18 meant he couldn't make up the gap at the top) and BOGUSLAW KRYZNOWEK (TILBURY DOCKERS) won the meeting to leave the majority of fans in attendance with a double celebration. For Kryznowek his performance was also enough to move him up into the top 8, ending 7th overall, and confirm his place in next year's title chase without having to face the dreaded GP Challenge meeting. Along with the two Poles the other riders in the Grand Final here were KENNI ALGREEN (ABERAVON GEMS), who finished 2nd but didn't quite do enough to end in a top 8 place, and LOUIS JOOSSENS (CANVEY ISLAND CASTAWAYS). JOOSSENS will have been pleased to finish 2nd overall with a strong finish to the series, closing the gap at the top from 20 points to just 6 over the final 3 rounds, sending him forwards full of belief he can go even better next year. |
The other big story of the day was the battle for the bronze medal in this year's championship. After PETR MARKO (BOTTESFORD BULLETS) had gone out before the Semi Finals, not looking happy with his machinery in the early stages, it seemed like RAY FRANCE (KING'S LYNN LIGHTNING) would steal 3rd overall if he could just pick up one more point from the Semis and Grand Final here, with the pair tied on 84 overall. France surprisingly ran a last in the first Semi an a run-off was required to decide the final rostrum spot with MARKO picking himself up to claim bronze after a flying start and a near perfect 4 laps that saw France have to settled for 4th overall. It wasn't a classice GP for JACK HAGEN (STOCKHOLM SCORPIONS), ENZO INNACONE (WOLSTON WARRIORS) or FILLIPPE CHONG (TILBURY DOCKERS) but they did just enough to ensure a top 8 finish in the final standing and a certain place in next season's series. |
Wild Card in this round was ERLING TROELSEN (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) who impressed with 12 points and will head into the GP Challenge with some confidence having progressed through the qualifying rounds. He will be joined by HAYDEN WOOD, JERNEJ KEGLOVITS, JACEK KLECHA, TIBOR NEMECEK, LEON JEPPESEN and RUMUN DIMOTROV from this season's series, along with previously mentioned Kenni Algreen, who finished 10th to 15th overall this year. |
